Baroque Silver and Gold Carved Bed
At OE-FASHION Furniture, we engineer “State Beds” that function as independent architectural entities within the room. The Baroque Silver and Gold Carved Bed utilises a complex bi-metallic finish and deep-relief joinery to establish a hierarchy of luxury in the master bedroom.
Aesthetic Structure & Proportions
The headboard features a distinctive “broken arch” silhouette, populated by vigorous Rococo scrollwork. Unlike solid panels, the upper register employs “pierced” or openwork carving, allowing the wall finish behind to interact with the bed frame. The finish is a technical application of “Bi-Metallic” gilding: an antique silver base creates depth in the recesses, while 24k gold leaf highlights the structural ridges, enhancing the three-dimensional readability of the carving.
Construction Logic & Material Behaviour
The frame is constructed from kiln-dried solid beech, necessary to support the fragility of the openwork carving without snapping under tension. The joinery is reinforced with concealed steel corner brackets to withstand the torque of the heavy headboard.
- Upholstery: The central panel features deep diamond tufting (Capitonné). We use high-resilience foam to ensure the “peaks” of the tufts remain firm, creating a play of light on the pearl-white textile surface.
- Gilding: The metallic leaf is applied over a red bole clay base, then hand-burnished. A final antique glaze is applied to simulate the patina of an 18th-century antique.
- Load Distribution: The mattress platform is supported by an independent internal rail system, ensuring the decorative outer frame bears no vertical load from the sleeper, preserving the carving integrity.
Functional Integration & Ergonomics
The headboard is angled slightly for ergonomic back support during reading. The footboard is kept low profile or omitted (as seen in the suite configuration) to allow for the placement of a matching bench, ensuring clear sightlines to windows or media units.
Installation & Project Constraints
Critical Access: The headboard is shipped as a single structural unit to maintain carving continuity. Access routes (elevators, stairwells) must accommodate a single piece measuring approximately 2200mm x 1600mm x 150mm. Crating is museum-grade plywood.
Bespoke Manufacturing (OEM / ODM)
OE-FASHION Furniture provides extensive customisation for interior designers.
- Upholstery: The headboard can be upholstered in pearl leather for durability or silk damask for a softer aesthetic.
- Finish Protocol: The ratio of silver to gold can be inverted, or the frame can be finished in solid walnut with parcel-gilt accents.
- Sizing: Available in all international mattress standards (UK Super King, US California King, EU Emperor).

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is the headboard compatible with adjustable bed bases?
A: Yes. Since the decorative frame is independent of the mattress support, an adjustable electric base can be inserted inside the frame perimeter.
Q: How do I clean the openwork carving?
A: We recommend using a soft natural bristle brush (like a paintbrush) to dust the deep crevices. Avoid liquid cleaners on the gold leaf.
Q: Can the bed bench be included?
A: The bed bench is a separate SKU but is designed to match. We can fabricate both as a matching set to ensure the gold finish and fabric tones align perfectly.
