Engineering Logic
This specification is engineered as contract-grade furniture.
It addresses the critical failure mode of Hygroscopic Swell causing shear delamination.
Unlike wood veneer, the Nacreous Shell (Mother-of-Pearl) surface has near-zero elasticity.
If the substrate expands due to humidity, the rigid shell tiles will detach.
We resolve this by bonding the shell matrix to an OE-Core™ Cross-Laminated Substrate,
which remains inert regardless of atmospheric moisture, adhering to our strictly defined
engineering principles.
Rococo-Style Typology – Aesthetic Structure
Designed as a study in light interaction, this specification upgrades the traditional Rococo form
with a continuous Nacreous Tessellation System. The chassis features cabriole supports
finished in a Platinum-Gilding System, providing a cool-tone metallic contrast
to the iridescence of the shell body. The central medallion utilises a contrasting organic veneer
to anchor the visual weight, framed by intricate scrollwork inlays that demand micron-tolerance cutting.
Project-Specific Interpretation
In a hypothetical commission for a Coastal Villa, this system is specified
as a primary focal point. Standard construction methods would fail in this environment;
salt air and humidity fluctuations would cause the solid wood frame to expand, popping the brittle shell inlay.
Our architectural specification furniture utilises a moisture-barrier resin bonding layer,
ensuring the marquetry integrity
is maintained for decades.
Construction & Material Behaviour
The assembly treats the shell surface as a “rigid cladding” rather than a flexible skin.
This requires a substrate with zero planar drift.
- Joinery: OE-Lock™ Multi-Axis Joinery System to stabilise the leg-to-body connection.
- Finish: High-solids crystal lacquer to seal the shell porosity without dulling iridescence.
- Load Behaviour: Reinforced top plate to support heavy decorative objects without bowing.
Bespoke Manufacturing (OEM / ODM)
OE-FASHION operates as an OEM / ODM furniture engineering partner. This page represents a
capability specification demonstrating our mastery of complex mixed-material inlays.
We invite design teams to submit concepts for technical feasibility review via our
bespoke specification process.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is this a vintage antique?
A: No. This is an engineering specification for manufacturing new, bespoke furniture that replicates this high-complexity inlay typology.
Q: Will the shell inlay crack over time?
A: When built on standard plywood, yes. When built on our OE-Core™ Substrate, the risk of cracking due to movement is effectively neutralised.
Q: Can the leg finish be changed?
A: Yes. The carved supports can be finished in Gold, Silver, or lacquered wood tones to match the interior scheme.
